Mainframe Performance Optimization

John Hancock provides solutions for 8 of consumers’ top 10 financial concerns, including the need to plan for retirement, the cost of healthcare, outliving savings and financial security after retirement. John Hancock employs approximately 4,000 people and sells its products through a network of financial advisors based in over 100 offices across the United States. The Group Pension division services over a million clients.

The majority of interactions pension clients had with John Hancock related to their account balances which were resident on a mainframe. The ever increasing traffic was becoming excessively expensive to service and as such a better system was required. Intelliware was engaged to build an offline Operational Data Store (ODS) to which all account balance enquiries would be redirected.

Intelliware built the ODS to accept daily downloads of static information from the legacy mainframe and serve client requests received from the IVR telephone system and client portal. The resulting system significantly reduced the mainframe loads and resulted in significant savings.
